Hamilton Moves Into Top Ten Following Bristol Race

Bobby Hamilton, Jr. battled hard at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday afternoon.  With his determination to overcome obstacles, the Greenbrier, TN native moved his way into tenth place in the NASCAR Busch Series Points Championship. After losing two laps to the leaders early in the race, Hamilton rallied for an 18th place finish at the high banked, half mile oval.

With over 110,000 race fans at Bristol Motor Speedway, the action was jam packed.  Twelve caution flags led to 103 laps of caution in the Sharpie Mini 300. Hamilton received his share of damage in the race, when another car attempted to miss an accident and plowed the McDonald’s Ford in the driver’s side. Crew Chief Chris Wright and the McDonald’s Drive-Thru crew made quick repairs to the damage, allowing Hamilton to finish the race.

Over the final half of the 300 lap race, Hamilton kept his McDonald’s Ford in stride with the lead cars, unfortunately the two lap deficit prevented him from climbing higher in the running order. With an overload of Cup drivers entered in the event, the 18th place finish contributed to Hamilton’s climb to tenth in the season long point’s championship.

“We are getting better each week, our communication is really improving and we are going to hit our stride soon,” Hamilton said.  “Once we get to that point, The McDonald’s Ford will be back inside the top-ten on a regular basis, competing for top-fives and wins. I am really proud of my McDonald’s Racing Team.”

Carl Edwards led the sweep of Cup drivers to the finish line.  Following a weekend off from racing, the Busch Series will return to Nashville Superspeedway, the home track for Bobby Hamilton. The concrete oval in Nashville has proven to be a strong race track in the past for Hamilton.
