Strong Points Day for Hamilton, Jr in Texas
With a 14th place finish on Saturday, McDonald’s NASCAR Busch
Series driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr. stands seventh in the season long point’s
championship race. All six drivers in front of Hamilton are Nextel
Cup drivers taking advantage of extra track time in the Busch Series. Despite
their advantage, Hamilton has managed to position his No. 35 McDonald's Ford
Fusion solidly inside the top ten.
Saturday’s 14th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway was a solid
effort for Hamilton. After qualifying 26th, he worked hard to
climb forward in the running order. Over the course of the 200 lap
event, Hamilton managed to race inside the top-ten on a couple of occasions. With
24 Nextel Cup drivers in the event, Hamilton was up for the challenge
and battled hard the entire race.
Crew Chief Chris Wright and the McDonald’s Drive Thru Crew performed
solidly, improving the car on each pit stop. With each race, the communication
between driver and team improves.
Over the final three laps, Hamilton managed to race by Mike Wallace to
grab the 14th position.
“This was a real good point’s day for us, especially against
such a tough field of drivers,” said Hamilton. “We feel like
we are getting better each week and that’s starting to show when
you look at the point’s and see where we stand. I am proud of all
the guys on the McDonald’s Team.”
Matt Kenseth led the Nextel Cup domination of the event and recorded
the win. Next week the Busch Series travels to Phoenix for Friday
Night racing action. During Hamilton’s prior stint at Team
Rensi Motorsports, he captured the checkered flag at Phoenix International
Raceway.
