Hamilton Begins Summer Swing with Top Ten Finish

As the temperature rises outside, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. hopes to heat up his season in the NASCAR Busch Series. The driver of the McDonald’s Ford Fusion started the NASCAR summer session off with a strong tenth place finish at Dover International Speedway Saturday afternoon.

The action started on Saturday with Hamilton recording a strong 17th place qualifying effort.  His McDonald’s Ford was handling well and the team believed their driver was in for a successful day of racing. As the green flag dropped, Hamilton began to place himself into contention.  Strong pit stop calls by crew chief Chris Wright moved Hamilton inside the top-ten, a position he would hold the majority of the afternoon.

The car wasn’t perfect, but Hamilton held on and kept the team in position for a successful finish.  Over the last 50 of 200 laps, Hamilton managed to elude the wrecks and wound up with the tenth place finish.  He now moves back inside the top-ten, into ninth position.  With his eyes squarely on the top-five, Hamilton moves on to race next Saturday night at his home track, The Nashville Super Speedway.

“We needed this finish to get our feet back under us and regain the momentum we lost in Charlotte,” Hamilton said. “Chris did a great job calling the race and The McDonald’s Pit Crew gave me great pit stops all afternoon.   We are real excited about moving into the next few races and getting back to the top-five.”

Carl Edwards captured the win, his third of the season.   Next week, the Busch Series drivers will get a slight break from the onslaught of Cup drivers stepping over to the series.  The Cup Series will be in Pocono, PA and only a few drivers will attempt to pull double-duty.  Check out the racing action Saturday Night on ESPN.
