Hamilton, Jr. Remains in Sixth Place in Point's Race Following Michigan
Team McDonald’s NASCAR Busch Series driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr. survived the invasion of 21 Nextel Cup drivers and an ill handling race car to finish 27th at Michigan International Speedway and remain in sixth place in the season long points battle. With the Carfax 250 now in the rear view mirror, Hamilton eagerly awaits Friday night’s trip to the half mile, Bristol Motor Speedway.
Hamilton faced a very loose race car during qualifying and was forced to start 42nd in the field. After passing five cars on the first lap, he moved up inside the top 25 for the remainder of the race. With only three caution periods for nine laps, the opportunities to work on the car’s chassis were few and far between. The field of 43 cars became very strung out across the two mile oval, working against Hamilton’s quest to move inside the top twenty.
The checkered flag fell on the race with Hamilton in 27th position.
“We came here to run better than 27th, so we aren’t happy with the finish,” Hamilton said. “Fortunately we get to race in Bristol next week and that’s a place where we tested at a few weeks ago and found success. We are going to do our best to get the McDonald’s car back up front on Friday Night.”
Denny Hamlin dominated the final portion of the event to collect the win. The Busch Series will take the green flag at 8:00pm EDT on Friday Night in Bristol, TN.
Prior to Friday Night’s race, Bobby Hamilton will appear at the Food City Racefest in downtown Bristol from 6-8pm. The No. 35 McCormick Grill Mates Showcar will appear alongside Hamilton.
